LIGHTHOUSE MARCH Wednesday Night Teaching SERIES ~ Tough topics: Week 3

Hello Parents!

I hope you had a lovely weekend and were able to enjoy the sunshine! This week in our “Tough Topics” series we will be talking about the LGBTQ+ community. Our conversation on this topic will continue to center on the 3 Facts we began this series with. We will be looking at a few passages of scripture with the main passage being Matthew 7:1-5. Our designated job from God is NOT to judge others; that is the Holy Spirit’s job.

I will discuss with the students that the denomination we are part of believes in, “Faithfulness in heterosexual marriage, celibacy in singleness.” We may open the floor for discussion. I would really love to start the evening with what they think and go from there.

Follow-up Questions:

  • What was it like to talk about people that identify as part of the LGBTQ+ community at youth group?
  • What do you think it looks like to love people well?

Resources:

I recommend checking out the Covenant’s Embrace resources (https://covchurch.org/embrace). Embrace is a suite of human sexuality discipleship resources and learning experiences which are in harmony with the adopted position of the Evangelical Covenant Church (ECC), the center of which is “Faithfulness in heterosexual marriage, celibacy in singleness—these constitute the Christian standard.” I highly recommend webinar #5 (Guiding Families of LGBT Loved Ones) if you have time, it is about 1 hour long.
